Bridges oil paintings by Vincent van Gogh reproductions

Vincent Van Gogh painted bridges in the Langlois Bridge at Arles series. Van Gogh did these paintings when he lived in Arles, France, in 1888. In this series there are four oil paintings, four drawings, and one watercolour. In these paintings, Van Gogh used a perspective frame which he also used to create sharp angles and lines. Japanese woodcut prints influenced many artists of that era, including Vincent Van Gogh, and it is pretty obvious in this series with his simple use of colour.

Bridges series

When Vincent painted the Langlois Bridge at Arles series he was just 35 and at the height of his career. This period proved to be the most prolific period of the artist’s life as he was able to produce around 200 paintings and 100 drawings in just a span of 15 months. These paintings are clearly one of the most loved and iconic paintings done by the artistic mastermind. In the The Langlois Bridge at Arles with Women Washing you can see the women washing clothes near the bridge.

Van Gogh very aptly used simultaneous colours law and colour theory in this painting. While the grass is painted with a green and orange alternating brush stroke, blue and yellow are used as complimentary colours for the bridge and the sky. As a whole, the use of complimentary colours brings vibrancy to the whole painting and intensifies it. It is also impressive how precise Van Gogh was able to draw the bridges, but of course, that might have been because of the perspective frame.
