"Encampment of Gypsies with Caravans is Vincent van Gogh and Django Reinhardt combined in one painting! My two heroes represented in a painting on my own wall, I'm so excited. Next goal is to see the original in the Musée d'Orsay in Paris. Thank you so much guys." - Chris

Encampment of Gypsies with Caravans replica in oil on canvas

Van Gogh Studio is located in Amsterdam, near the Van Gogh museum where we can study the original works. Our paintings are all painted in oil on canvas by mainly Dutch artists who have studied Van Gogh's technique, including brushstrokes, color mixing, atmosphere and the rhythm of painting.

Like gypsies

It's fascinating to learn that the area surrounding Arles and the wilds of the Camargue had a long-standing tradition of gypsies living there. Van Gogh was drawn to their romantic and exotic way of life and he depicted them in his paintings using brilliant, vibrant colors that mirrored the richness and excitement of their culture. The gypsies lived outside the confines of a fixed community, much like Van Gogh himself who was excluded from the social network in Arles due to his unconventional behavior and appearance.

Connected with Paris

Van Gogh longed for the company of other artists and like-minded individuals, but he felt completely cut off in Arles. Despite keeping in touch with the art scene in Paris through his brother and artist friends, his lack of social interaction only served to deepen his despondency and depression. It's clear that Van Gogh's paintings of the gypsies reflect his admiration for their lifestyle and his own longing for connection and belonging.
