Vincent van Gogh paintings at Musée Rodin

Musée Rodin Museum in Paris was created to pay homage to the great French sculptor Auguste Rodin. There are two grounds for the museum; one is the Hotel Biron, and another is Rodin’s residence just outside Paris.

It was in 1908 when Rodin decided to donate his entire collection the state of France. This collection included 8,000 drawings, 6,600 sculptures, 8,000 drawings and several other paintings from Rodin’s personal collection. One of the paintings which were in Rodin’s personal collection was Vincent Van Gogh’s Portrait of Pere Tanguy.

Vincent van Gogh replica oil paintings for sale

Oil reproductions of the Portrait of Pere Tanguy are available at the Van Gogh Studio. Van Gogh actually did three variations of this painting. The first one was more sombre and simple, the second one was clearly influenced by Japanese prints, and the third version completely integrates Japanese impressionism.

The second painting is the one that can be seen at Musée Rodin Museum in Paris, and it was supposedly done by Van Gogh in a thirty-minute setting.

Tanguy was an art collector and dealer. Instead of taking money from artists for paints, he took paintings as payment. Many artists described walking into his shop like they were in a gallery.

Four years after Van Gog’s death, Tanguy died, and the painting was passed on to his daughter, who then sold the painting to Auguste Rodin, and that is how the painting ended up in the museum. The other two paintings of this series are now a part of the private collection.
