Vincent van Gogh replica oil paintings for sale

Some of Vincent Van Gogh’s most brilliant paintings are up for a showcase in museums all around the world. Others are in private collections owned by people who can shell out hundreds of millions of dollars. But just because you cannot spend that much money doesn’t mean you should be deprived of the great paintings done by Van Gogh. You can opt for oil reproductions of your most loved Van Gogh paintings which will be just under your budget and easily obtainable.

In the Detroit Institute of Arts, you can see Van Gogh’s painting, Self Portrait with Straw Hat which was painted by the artist in the summer of 1887.

Van Gogh did a large series of self-portraits, which he mostly did to hone his skills as an artist. Since he used a mirror to paint himself, Van Gogh’s left side in the painting is actually his right side.

The first series of self-portraits were done in Paris between 1886-1887, and then a bunch of them were done when Van Gogh moved in Arles.

After moving to Arles, Van Gogh mutilated his ear when a big fight between him and Paul Gauguin erupted. This mutilated ear can be clearly seen in the painting Self-portrait with Bandaged Ear. After that, the self-portraits that Vincent did in Saint-Remy only showcased his right side of the face, thus hiding his left mutilated ear.
