Noon, rest from work is one of the 21 work from Francois Millet that Van Gogh copied. Actually Vincent didn’t see it so much as a copy. “..a composer’s interpretation is something, and it isn’t a hard and fast rule that only the composer plays his own compositions.”
And so Van Gogh painted his own interpretation of the two peasants resting from work. This romantic scene deserved a romantic frame, which we found on an auction: an Italian handmade wooden frame from the beginning of the 20the century in rococo style. Rococo features exuberant decoration, with an abundance of curves, counter-curves, undulations and elements modeled on nature.
The golden color is amazing and brings out the warmth of the sleeping couple at noon. The frame is in good condition.
