He endured long hours in the fields and exposed himself to the same weather conditions that they faced, all in an effort to better understand and represent their experiences in his paintings.

Human nests

The cottage has two front doors, a chimney split in two, and was designed to accommodate two families. When viewed in the evening light, the cottage exudes a sense of tranquility. Van Gogh referred to these humble dwellings as "human nests," acknowledging the significance of these homes in the lives of the hardworking peasants who inhabited them.
