Post-impressionism shows emotions rather than an impression of what the artists witnesses. The Poet’s Garden shows Van Gogh’s hyper intense experience of nature. Wether that was out in the wheat fields, or in this case the park in Arles near The Yellow House across Place Lamertine.
“sometimes I long to paint landscapes, just as I crave a walk to refresh myself, and in all of nature, in trees for instance, I see expression and soul."
Van Gogh painted the garden as decoration for Gauguin’s bedroom (The Poet refers to Gauguin to whom Van Gogh looked up to very much). A masterpiece from 1888 with a color combination that easily makes modern mansions look even more hip and trendy.
The frame we found as perfect match with our hand-painted replica has signs of aging with some gaps and minor missing parts. It has a lot of soul though that Van Gogh loved so much. It not only enhances the lemon colors (and the blue tower of Arles in the background), but the vegetal decoration on the frame also captures the spirit of the garden.
