Buildings oil paintings by Vincent van Gogh reproductions
Along with painting
nature and
trees, Van Gogh also painted many buildings. While some buildings were only present in the backdrop, other buildings managed to be the main subject of Van Gogh’s paintings. And when it came to painting buildings, Van Gogh certainly did not restrict himself to just one city.
From Paris to Arles, Amsterdam, Nuenen, Antwerp and Auvers, Van Gogh brought a lot of French cities to his canvas. Some of the most famous paintings from this series include –
The Yellow House,
Le Moulin de la Galette, and
View of Amsterdam from Central Station.
Building series
Vincent’s House in Arles, or
The Yellow House is one of the most popular paintings by Van Gogh, simply because it gives people a good look into the great artist’s house. Van Gogh rented out this house during his stay in
Arles. The restaurant where he would have his daily meals is also depicted in
pink. Vincent painted the inside of his bedroom in the painting
Vincent's Bedroom in Arles. Unfortunately, this building was
destroyed during in the second World. But all the other buildings around it still remain intact.
Le Moulin de la Galette was painted by Van Gogh when he lived with his brother Theo in an apartment in Montmartre. The place was in a rather rural setting and it was on a butte overlooking
Paris. The
landscape gave a great opportunity to Van Gogh to paint more rural paintings. Van Gogh did three compositions for Le Moulin de la Galette. In each painting, the colours are sombre and they impart a sense of loneliness and anxiety.
View of Amsterdam from Central Station was done by Van Gogh during his short two-day trip to the city. He went there to visit the
museums and looked at paintings by great artists like Rembrandt and Frans Hals. It is believed that he did this painting in a waiting room of a train station because he arrived too early for his train.
