Vincent Van Gogh Paintings Made in Paris (1886-1888)

Vincent Van Gogh moved in with his brother Theo, in Paris in 1886 as he wasn’t being able to pay his rent at Antwerp, Belgium. During his 2-year stay in Paris, he painted still life paintings and portraits of friends and acquaintances. The sudden move to Paris was fortuitous for Van Gogh, who was heavily influenced by avant-garde artists of that time, who were experimenting with new styles.

His stay in Paris gave his work a transformative shift from the sombre and dark shades of his early realist paintings to bright and colorful textured flower paintings and portraits, something that Van Gogh is associated with even today.

Vincent Van Gogh Replica Oil Painting For Sale

Before his arrival in Paris, Van Gogh’s work was richly influenced by Rembrandt and other Dutch masters, along with newer artists like Anton Mauve. Once in Paris, his ideas were challenged by the styles and techniques of the artists there. His friends Paul Gauguin and Emile Bernard also challenged his use of colors. He was particularly inspired by a painter from Provence named Adolphe Monticelli.

Van Gogh’s self portraits were one of the most famous creations during this time. The painting “Self Portrait with Grey Felt Hat”  is one of these. “Japonaiserie Bridge In The Rain”, created with Japanese style woodblock prints, depicts Utagawa Hiroshige’s Sudden Shower over Shin-Ōhashi and Atake. Another great painting Van Gogh created during his stay at Paris is of an Italian woman called Augustina Segatori.

About Van Gogh Studio

At Van Gogh Studio, we aim to recreate the various works of Vincent Van Gogh. Our aim is to celebrate and honor the life and work of one of Holland’s most celebrated artists. We have naturally talented in-house artists who understand Van Gogh and his style of painting, and create hand made replicas of his paintings on canvas.

We create oil paintings that look and feel like the master’s original work. Our painters make use of the same materials and techniques as used by Van Gogh, such as impasto, rhythm of application, colour mixing, and ambience. We offer a 100% money back guarantee if you aren’t satisfied with the replica.
