Landscape oil paintings by Vincent van Gogh reproductions
Vincent Van Gogh’s landscape paintings weren’t just about replicating the scenery in front of him, he wanted to convey a message through them. That is why industrialisation can be seen as a common theme in most of his landscapes. For instance, even though wheat fields might have been his main subject in a number of paintings, he also depicted the chimneys in background, showing how agriculture was losing. Van Gogh painted landscapes in Asnières, Arles, and Saint-Remy, where he was checked into a mental asylum. In Saint-Remy, he would usually paint the view from his window which showed wheat fields with a backdrop of mountains. To depict the metaphor of life in his paintings, Van Gogh showed the life cycle of agriculture. Surprisingly, Van Gogh often claimed that he didn’t see himself as a landscape painter. But the truth is, nature was often his subject for paintings. Since he struggled with relationships in his life, Vincent often believed that the most important relationship which everyone has is with nature. Yes, he did use figures to distance his paintings from the traditional landscape paintings, but the overall effect was pretty similar.Another recurring theme in all of Vincent’s paintings is the peasant life. In his painting, The Harvest, there is a half mowed wheat field and a reaper working in the background. According to Van Gogh, this was one of his most successful paintings. In a letter to his brother Theo, Van Gogh wrote that ‘this canvas completely kills all the rest.’ And he was indeed right. One look at the painting and you can almost feel the heat and dryness of the flat Arles landscape.
