Just like Starry Night, Van Gogh painted the Enclosed Field with Ploughman based on the view from his window in the asylum in Saint-Rémy. From his imagination he added the town to Starry Night and in the same way he added the windmills to the Enclosed Filed with Ploughman.
Painting a small version of the original without losing the typical Van Gogh style brushstrokes worked out really well. The yellow and purple tones, being complementary colors, makes the painting very powerful, exactly as Van Gogh wanted.
The beautiful gilded baroque frame with copper tones and a golden glow is from the first half of the 20th century. This flamboyant frame with flower ornaments gives a classic look to the colorful scenery. A winning combination.
