Vincent van Gogh paintings in Private Collections

While most of Vincent Van Gogh’s masterpieces are showcased in museums all around the world, there are some paintings that are a part of private collections which aren’t easily accessible to the public. There were two versions of this painting done by the artist. The first version was sold by Vincent’s sister in law in 1897 for a mere 300 francs. This is the same version which was later sold at Christie’s. The other version was owned by Gachet himself and was later on given to the Republic of France by his heirs.
