In the summer of 2023,
Nard Kwast embarked on an inspiring pilgrimage to Auvers-sûr-Oise to visit the grave of Vincent and Theo van Gogh. The moment he stood in front of their final resting place was a deeply moving experience. Many admirers of Van Gogh also stood there with similar emotions.
Filled with admiration, Nard Kwast paid tribute to the brothers by picking two sunflowers that grew near the cemetery and painting them in his studio in the Netherlands. Placed side by side, like Vincent and Theo, the sunflowers in this painting reflect the deep sentiment that Nard Kwast experienced in Auvers-sûr-Oise.
These sunflowers not only celebrate the special bond between the brothers. It also honors their artistic contribution to the art world. And it also shows Nard Kwast's gratitude to Van Gogh. It inspires him every day to continue to focus on painting.
Nard Kwast gained recognition as a finalist on Dutch TV's Project Rembrandt and as the winner of The New Vermeer. Although these shows focused on classical painting by old masters, Nard's orginal artwork also deserves a stage.
