Frequently asked questions
- Are your paintings hand-painted or printed?
- All our Van Gogh reproductions are hand-painted in oil on canvas. You will not only see, but also feel and smell the brush strokes. Just like the original Van Gogh paintings.
- What are your delivery times?
- When the painting you want to order is in stock ("Now in Stock" mentioned where you select size) we usually send it the day after your order and estimated delivery outside of Europe by DHL is 3-4 days later.
Please view the Van Gogh reproductions in stock by clicking here.
When the painting of your choice is not in stock, delivery usually takes 6 - 7 weeks.
- Do the paintings come framed?
- No, we send the paintings rolled in a hard plastic tube for maximum protection. To ship frames would also be very expensive and there is more chance of damage. We do have a selection of smaller paintings with antique frames.
This video may help to select the right frame at your local framer.
- Can we visit Van Gogh Studio in Amsterdam?
- We don't have a gallery at the moment. But you are welcome at Bistrot Neuf at Haarlemmerstraat 9 in Amsterdam for a Van Gogh Menu lunch. During lunch, hand-painted replicas by Van Gogh Studio hang on the walls around you.

About this painting
Preaching Through Paint
Before Vincent van Gogh became a painter, he wanted to follow in his father’s footsteps and become a preacher. But art was always on his mind. In the end, painting became another way for him to express what mattered to him. With The Potato Eaters, Van Gogh wanted to give dignity to the lives of poor, hard-working peasants. Their rough hands, tired faces and simple meal were not meant to be beautiful in the conventional sense. He wanted us to see them, and to understand the life they had earned with those same hands.
Perhaps, in a way, Van Gogh became a preacher after all. Not from a pulpit, but through paint. And his message has lasted far longer than any sermon could.
Late 19th-century antique frame
Van Gogh wanted to shine a light on this potato-eating family. We felt they deserved a frame with the same sense of importance. We found this extraordinary late 19th-century gilded frame at auction. Its rich ornamentation and warm, aged gold create a striking contrast with the dark, humble interior of the painting. Almost like giving these ordinary people the grand setting they were never given in life.
The result is unusual, but intentional: a monumental frame for a painting about people who had very little and whom Van Gogh believed were worth looking at.
