Which frame would be more suitable for Van Gogh’s The Red Vineyard than this little gilded wooden 19th century Spanish frame with vegetal decoration? The frame has some signs of wear here and there, see photos.

A few kilometers from Arles you’ll find the historic abbey of Montmajour. Van Gogh saw the grapes being picked with the abbey in his back, facing arles. This was on 3 November 1888 and he painted it from his memory when he got back home in The Yellow House. Apparently people back then preferred their red wine quite sweet as these days harvest is 1-2 months sooner than early November.

In case you are not able the see the original painting in the Pushkin Museum in Moscow, this small replica is a good alternative to dream away about Van Gogh’s life back in 1888. This was just before Gauguin arrived and Vincent was in a very positive mood with great ambitions to start the Studio of the South. A place where artists could inspire each other and develop their artistic ideas.
