Van Gogh painted sunflowers to decorate Paul Gauguin’s room in the Yellow House in Arles.

To Theo in 1888:

"I’m painting with the gusto of a Marseillais eating bouillabaisse, which won’t surprise you when it’s a question of painting large Sunflowers… In the hope of living in a studio of our own with Gauguin, I’d like to do a decoration for the studio. Nothing but large Sunflowers.”

Van Gogh’s Vase with 15 Sunflowers turned out to be among the most iconic paintings ever.

Master painter Cees van Loon studied Van Gogh’s life and painting technique to the smallest detail and painted the version of the Sunflowers that resides in the Van Gogh Museum in 1990. Has there ever been painted a replica that better captured Van Gogh’s soul than this masterpiece?
