Starry Night replica in oil on canvas

“This beautiful morning I beheld the countryside from my window long before sunrise, it was dark and beautiful with nothing but the morning star”, these are the words van Gogh wrote to his brother Theo, while based in France.

Van Gogh Studio is located in Amsterdam, near the Van Gogh museum where we can study the original works. Our paintings are all painted in oil on canvas by mainly Dutch artists who have studied Van Gogh's technique, including brushstrokes, color mixing, atmosphere and the rhythm of painting.

Meaning of Starry Night

The painting has inspired art lovers and scientists which has led to several discussions, theories about the meaning behind the painting. The Starry night was painted by Van Gogh in a mental asylum in St. Remy and this has made historians believe that his work reflected his troubled state of mind.

The astonishing way the stars were painted in this masterpiece make historians think he was interested in astronomy. Till this moment the real meaning behind the painting is still unknown.

Van Gogh: ‘The Night is more richly coloured than the day’

Starry Night is one of the most acknowledged paintings in today’s modern world because it invokes deep emotions, from the peacefulness of the church tower to the carefree use of lively colors in the night sky.

Night Sky

It has been widely debated and appreciated for its importance on interior, emotional life, depiction of night and the spiritual power it contains. This can be seen in the swirling and wild representations of the sky.

The night sky feels like a rolling ball of energy. The sky glows in yellow spheres and a flame-like cypress known for death and eternal life links the earth and sky.

Café Terrace at Night hand-painted replica in oil on canvas

Café Terrace at Night is one of the most famous paintings. Its features includes upbeat colors, bold tones, happy movement and one of the most captivating scenes in art history.

Café Terrace on the Place du Forum

Painted in Arles France in 1888, the Café Terrace at Night also known as The Café Terrace on the Place du Forum was created in a local coffee house.

Van Gogh’s yellow

At first sight, the attention of the viewer is caught by the yellow walls of the café. The painting is simple as it describes a ubiquitous scene of a café terrace. The energetic blend of warm colors and depth of perception are one of the unique features of the painting.

The daring color used to paint the wall is a way of showing light from the lanterns. The lanterns emit so much light that the entire wall becomes saturated with yellow.

Post-impressionism

The yellow color stands in dissimilarity to the deep blue of the sky and to the blue of other buildings. The aesthetics gives us a feel of the locals, a touch of humanity, and still holds our attention with its beautiful composition.

This painting is a clear example of post-impressionism as he expresses his feelings and thoughts by the use of yellow and orange colors.

Blossoming Almond Tree hand-painted replica in oil on canvas

Van Gogh Studio is located in Amsterdam, near the Van Gogh museum where we can study the original works. Our paintings are all painted in oil on canvas by mainly Dutch artists who have studied Van Gogh's technique, including brushstrokes, color mixing, atmosphere and the rhythm of painting.

Springtime and Awakening

Van Gogh was attracted to spring, and the blossoming of plants and flowers. He believed this to be a truly special time, it represented awakening and hope, something Van Gogh too held onto in his life, often wanting to grow and develop into a more spiritually enlightened man. It is no surprise that with the birth of his nephew he turned to this imagery.

Painted for Vincent Van Gogh

The work was painted for Van Gogh’s newly born nephew, and namesake, Vincent Van Gogh. His brother Theo deciding to name his son after Van Gogh shows again how deeply his love and respect ran.

Not only was he Van Gogh’s financial supporter for most of the artists life, he also was the one that kept encouraging him even when Van Gogh himself was losing belief he would ever be able to make any money from his work. Van Gogh was very moved by his brothers choice and proud that he may share his name with another.

An Entrancing Work

Inspired by Japanese woodcut art Van Gogh created this beautiful work, one that still manages to entrance the viewer with a deep and mysterious beauty. The blue sky in the background itself becomes abstract in its expansiveness by giving no clear perspective on the surroundings. Instead the painting becomes symbolic and the viewer, if not careful, can be lost in it for hours.

A Romantic Painting

Starry Night Over the Rhone was produced in 1888, an intensely busy year and one where Van Gogh produced so many masterpieces. It was painted on the bank of the Rhone river, only a few minutes walk from Van Gogh’s home at The Yellow House.

Current Value of Starry Night Over the Rhone

An estimated value of between 200-300 million dollars is the figure that people could expect to see if the painting was sold today. It is generally held as one of Van Gogh’s most exquisite masterpieces, and considering that Portrait of Dr. Gachet sold for 150 million dollars (when adjusted for inflation) it would be expected to fetch more.

They have studied the technique of Van Gogh, including brush strokes, colour mixing, ambience and rhythm of application.

Just a Study

Irises was one of the first paintings he produced on arriving at the asylum in Saint-Remy, France. He worked from nature in the asylum’s garden, and it is believed the final Irises was just a study, as no other drawings were ever discovered for the piece.

When Theo saw it he remarked: ‘[It] strikes the eye from afar. It is a beautiful study full of air and life.’

The First Owner of the Irises

The first owner of Irises was Julien ‘Pere’ Tanguy, a paint grinder who also sold art supplies and was an art dealer who first met Van Gogh during his own portrait sessions.

Three paintings were produced of Mr. Tanguy: Portrait of Pere Tanguy, Winter, and two others titled, Portrait of Pere Tanguy. He soon sold it to art critic Octave Mirbeau, one of Van Gogh’s earliest supporters, for 300 francs.

Current value of the Irises; Breaking Art Auction Records

In 1987, Irises sold at an auction at Sotheby’s in New York for $53.9 million, the most expensive price ever for an artwork at that time. Sidney James, who was the dean of the art dealers, and 91 years old at the time, remarked: 'I never thought I'd live to see a painting sell for such a price. I wonder if there is any painting in the world that would sell for more.'

Road with Cypress and Star Oil replica in oil on canvas

Road with Cypress and Star is a painting which clearly shows Van Gogh’s love for nature. Short, swirling brush strokes, highly contrasting colors and a looming cypress tree- all these details are perfectly captured in our rendition of this iconic painting.

Road with Cypress and Star Explained by Van Gogh

The painting is also known as “Country Road in Provence by Night”. Van Gogh painted Road with Cypress and Star in Provence, his last before he left the asylum he was in.

He was very fascinated by Cypress trees and wanted to use them in his art. He thought them beautiful with regard to lines and proportions, like an Egyptian obelisk. He also thought the green had a distinguished quality. The painting is divided in half by a Cypress tree that is so tall, it extends out of the painting.

Van Gogh, described the painting as follows: “A night sky with a moon without radiance, the slender crescent barely emerging from the opaque shadow cast by the earth. One star with an exaggerated brilliance, if you like, a soft brilliance of pink and green in the ultramarine sky, across which some clouds are hurrying.

Below, a road bordered with tall yellow canes, behind these the blue Basses Alpes, an old inn with yellow lighted windows, and a very tall cypress, very straight, very sombre. On the road, a yellow cart with a white horse in harness, and two late wayfarers. Very romantic, if you like, but also Provence, I think.”

About the Painting

An analysis of Road with Cypress and Star, points towards a number of “typically-Van Gogh” sentiments. Experts say that through this painting, Van Gogh was trying to share his feelings that his death was imminent.

Set during twilight, with the luminescent star on one side of the Cypress (the obelisk of death) and the newly formed, not very bright moon on the other side, Van Gogh was trying to lay emphasis on his belief in rebirth and renewal. It was all about his notion of eternity and life after death.

The wandering wayfarers and the horse drawn carriage following in pursuit, as per experts, indicate Van Gogh’s longing for companionship and love.

Painted At The Academy

It is very likely that this painting was created by Vincent Van Gogh when he was attending anatomy classes at the Royal Academy Of Fine Arts, Belgium. Another sketch from the same era, ‘Hanging Skeleton and A Cat’, seem to confirm this evidence.

It is known that Van Gogh was ailing during his time at the university, and this painting could represent the concerns he had about his own well being and health.

Dabbling With The Macabre

This painting has to be one of the most Macabre paintings ever created by Van Gogh. Unlike his other paintings, this one could have drawn influence from the works of Hercules Segers, who was his Belgian contemporary.

Held By Theo Van Gogh

It is known that this painting was held by Vincent’s brother Theo Van Gogh at the time of his death in 1891. It was later passed on to Theo’s wife Johanna, who kept it till her death in 1925.

Their son, Vincent—who was also Van Gogh’s namesake—inherited the painting after his mother’s demise, and held it till 1962. After this, it was acquired by the Van Gogh foundation.
It’s a well known fact that scenes of nature and everyday life were a favourite of Van Gogh when it came to painting. After his stay in Paris, there was a stark contrast in his paintings when compared to his previous, more sombre, works of art.

An Amalgamation Of Everything.

Vincent Van Gogh was not one to shy away from using colours that may not be a part of the actual scene at all. To him, experimenting with colours was his way of playing with contrast and intensity.

In ‘The Sea at Les Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer’ Van Gogh was trying his best to capture as much colour and shade as he could. In a letter to Theo Van Gogh, he says, ‘The Mediterranean has the colour of mackerel, changeable, I mean.

You don’t always know if it’s green or violet, you can’t even say it’s blue, because the next moment, the changing light has taken on a pinch of pink or grey.’

Coming Through In Waves

Van Gogh took three canvases to Saintes-Maries. Over there he painted one with a view of the village, and two of the sea, with numerous fishing boats in the frame. One of these paintings was was painted rather hastily.

However, in the end, this one ended up becoming the favourite souvenir of Van Gogh’s first trip to the Mediterranean. Soon after, he created three more versions of this study for Emile Bernard, Theo Van Gogh, and John Russell.

"It looks absolutely gorgeous on our wall. It captures the texture and vibrancy of Van Gogh's famous swirls and dashes" - Sharika

Wheat Field with Cypresses replica in oil on canvas

Van Gogh Studio is located in Amsterdam, near the Van Gogh museum where we can study the original works. Our paintings are all painted in oil on canvas by mainly Dutch artists who have studied Van Gogh's technique, including brushstrokes, color mixing, atmosphere and the rhythm of painting.

Van Gogh’s Attraction to Cypress Trees

Van Gogh often painted cypress trees in his works. He found them mysterious to look at, even alluring. He pondered on how to paint them for sometime, and how to best capture their dark beauty.

In his letter to Theo he wrote: ‘I am still preoccupied with cypresses. I’d like to do something like the Sunflower paintings with them because I am amazed that no one has yet done them the way I see them. They have a beautiful line, beautiful proportions, like an Egyptian obelisk. And the green has such a distinguished quality.’

The View From The Asylum

This painting was one of many done while Van Gogh lived in Saint-Remy at the asylum. He had just finished Starry Night when he began this work. It was inspired by the view from his window, though it is believed he painted it in the open air by the field itself, after his health had improved and he was given permission to leave the asylum during the day. He regarded it as one of his best summer paintings.

Three Versions of Wheat Field with Cypresses

There were three versions done of this painting, also occasionally known as Cornfield With Cypresses. The main more accomplished version has been held at The National Gallery in London since 1923.

Another version, Wheat Field with Cypresses at the Haute Galline Near Eygalieres, was privately owned by a number of private collectors until it was eventually sold to The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York for $57 million in 1993. There is also a third smaller version that is held in a private collection.

Background of the Mulberry Tree

This painting was made one year before the death of Van Gogh. Van Gogh suffered from mental illness throughout his life. However, during the last fifteen months he went through a lot of highs and lows and many attacks of epilepsy. Yet, it was during this period that he created some of his best works.

Autumn Trees

The Mulberry Tree was one painting that particularly pleased Van Gogh. As per him, this was a very successful implementation of his theme. As he wrote about this painting to his brother, he said that he was taking full advantage of the superb days of Autumn.

Vase With 15 Sunflowers replica in oil on canvas

Sunflowers For His Studio

The series of sunflowers that were painted by Van Gogh in Arles were meant to be a part of decorations for a studio that he was planning to share with his good friend, Paul Gauguin.

However, the idea for a studio never came to life, as Gauguin and Van Gogh’s relationship slowly deteriorated. This led to a confrontation where Van Gogh threatened Gauguin with a razor blade, and in a bizarre series of events, proceeded to cut his left ear off later that day.

Blooming Flowers and Contrasting Colours

Van Gogh had always displayed an interest in the growth of flora and this series of paintings feature the growth of fifteen sunflowers bursting out of a simple earthen pot.

A lot of textural variations with thick layers of paint give this painting a post impressionist appearance. Van Gogh’s remarkable ability to capture life in his paintings is clearly seen here.

Van Gogh’s Words

Wheat Field With Crows has had many different interpretations attributed to it. The circling crows, a path leading to nowhere in particular, and an ominous, moody sky have given people cause to assume that this was Van Gogh’s farewell to the earth, and to the nature he so dearly loved.

Van Gogh himself wrote to his brother Theo at the time, saying that he was working on a few large canvases, depicting immense stretches of wheat fields under turbulent skies. He was pleased about some breakthroughs he was having, including finding a way to express sadness in these paintings along with an extreme loneliness. Not the final painting many people believed.

Wheat Field With Crows to be Van Gogh’s final painting.

This too was partly because the painting itself seems to depict so much turmoil that it was assumed to be the point at which Van Gogh finally went over the edge. It was most certainly painted in the final week of the artists life, but it is not believed to be the last.

Art historians are unsure of the exact piece that was Van Gogh’s last, at varying times it has been believed The Fields, Field With Stacks Of Wheat, Tree Roots, and Daubigny’s Garden were the last. It will most likely never be known which one was his final canvas.

Nighthawks by Edward Hopper replica in oil on canvas

Van Gogh Studio in Amsterdam offers expertly painted oil reproductions of iconic artworks. While our roots lie in Dutch masters, we also honor American realists like Edward Hopper. His "Nighthawks" is one of the most recognizable and haunting images in 20th-century art — a quiet night filled with unspoken stories.

Isolation in the city that never sleeps

Painted in 1942, "Nighthawks" shows a late-night diner on a street corner, its fluorescent glow cutting through the darkness. The figures inside seem close, yet disconnected — strangers sharing space, but not connection. Hopper’s ability to portray urban loneliness with elegance is unmatched.

A masterpiece of mood and composition

With its sharp lines, deep shadows, and carefully balanced color palette, "Nighthawks" draws the viewer into its stillness. The glass, the counter, the silence — every element adds to the painting’s mysterious and cinematic atmosphere. It’s not just a scene; it’s a feeling.

The Sower replica in oil on canvas

Vincent Van Gogh was a painter who revelled in the interplay of colours contrast. This is primarily why he was so interested in Impressionism and Japanese block prints.

The Endless Cycle

The Sower, painted by Van Gogh at Arles, in 1888, is widely considered to be a representation of The Last Judgement in the gospel of Matthew. It speaks about how God sows the seeds of the spirit in the soil of humanity and returns on the last day to reap the harvest.

There are two ‘Sower’ paintings which are quite similar in terms of the perspective used by Van Gogh. Both have the sun as the primary source of light, but at different times of the day. This one here shows the sun being high in the sky like it is at noon.

The other one, titled ‘Sower in the setting sun’, as the title suggests was framed just before sun down. Both paintings show a farmer sowing seeds for the next harvest. The empty fields signify that the previous crop has already been reaped, thus reiterating the fact that life is an endless cycle of sowing the seeds and reaping the benefits.

Van Gogh’s fascination with celestial objects has been demonstrated in numerous paintings. Here, the sun looms over the farmer, almost as it were something to be worshipped.

The one thing that no one can miss while looking at ‘The Sower’ is a rhetorical fencing match that goes on between the sun and the ploughed field which makes for almost 3/4th of the painting.

It is also important to mention that after his tryst with Portraits in Paris, nature began to take the spotlight in Van Gogh’s paintings. In fact, Van Gogh was always looking to interpret the nuances of ambient light in his own way.

He once mentioned how the objective was to use his own colours to depict the scenes he saw.

It was almost as if he couldn’t care less about what the actual colours were and was more interested in giving the viewer a sensory overdose of complementary and contrasting colours.

Still Life: Vase With Fifteen Sunflowers Replica On Canvas

Van Gogh Studio is located in Amsterdam, near the Van Gogh museum where we can study the original works. Our paintings are all painted in oil on canvas by mainly Dutch artists who have studied Van Gogh's technique, including brushstrokes, color mixing, atmosphere and the rhythm of painting.

The Arles Sunflowers

Van Gogh's paintings of sunflowers have reconstructed mankind's view of art and life. The painting dates back to 1888, when Van Gogh left Paris to paint in the gleaming sunshine of the South of France, requesting Paul Gauguin to join him.

Waiting for his friend to arrive, Van Gogh painted a series of pictures of sunflowers to brighten his friend's bedroom. They were meant as a sign of friendship and welcome, but also of Vincent's devotion to Gauguin as his artistic leader.

The Berceuse-Triptych

From the moment of his arrival in Provence on February 20, Van Gogh’s art moved forth at a furious pace. The most remarkable paintings were those of the sunflowers. Flowers had eclipsed his output during the summer of 1886.

But it was in Arles that the glorious sunflower period began. This was when he moved into a small yellow house on the edge of the square. The outside walls turned the colour of fresh butter and its shutters a ‘hideous’ green, by his demand.

The five months he waited to move in, inspired his brilliant plan. He is said to have told Emile Bernard, "I'm thinking of decorating my studio with half a dozen paintings of sunflowers."

“The Sunflower Is Mine”

Van Gogh recognized that he had created something significant, and savored the fact that his sunflowers were so distinctive that they worked almost like an artist’s signature.

There is a record of him telling his brother during a period where all other artists were known for painting other flowers, "The sunflower is mine".

The Sunflowers stood for sun and spirit against the dinginess of the north. It was this last one painting in the sequence which the artist himself was most pleased with, and proceeded to sign.
